UNREST

There has been a bit of uprising going on in Kampala and other cities around Uganda for the last few weeks. The opposition leader has been trying to do some peaceful protests about the rising food and fuel costs. He gets arrested every time and then the people go all squirrely. The police move in and break things up so riots never last very long. One good thing is that he has said he will do peaceful protests every Monday and Thursday so it’s been fairly predictable......except for the one yesterday that flared up from his arrest on Thursday. This latest arrest is being spread around the world and he is attracting more international attention. We are fortunate to live on a quiet side of town that has not been affected. Our security officer at eMi keeps us very informed of what it going on before we venture out at all so we haven’t really felt threatened. We do need to pray for peace though as the people here are very annoyed with high inflation and low employment. When a leader steps up to protest, people are quick to join and the government is making a very strong statement that they will not put up with it.
